Los Mayas Antiguos

Esta exposición representa varios aspectos de la cultura de los mayas antiguos después de una época de investigación y de reflección por parte de las estudiantes de la clase de Español V.  Las estudiantes han investigado y presentado en clase sobre varios aspectos de la cultura de los mayas de la época pre-colombina.  Luego, han investigado varias ciudades de la cultura clásica maya para averiguar por qué estas ciudades se abandonaron antes de la llegada de los españoles a México y la América Central.  Se han organizado por temas que representan la organización de la vida diaria, las organizaciones gubermentales, la cosmología y la lengua oral y escrita que se unifican para ayudarnos a entender un poco más esa civilización extraordinaria cuya cultura se ha transformado en algo muy diferente para seguirse vigente hoy en día. 

This exhibit depicts various aspects of the culture of the ancient Maya people after a period of research and reflection by the students in Spanish V.  They researched and presented in class about various aspects of Mayan civilization in the pre-Columbian period.  Later, they investigated several of the Mayan city-states to discover some of the possible reasons that the cities were ultimately abandoned before the arrival of the Spanish to Mexico and Central America.  The exhibits are organized by themes that depict organization of Mayan daily life, governmental structure, cosmology, as well as written and oral communication that, together, help us to understand this extraordinary civilization whose culture has transformed itself and survives in today's world.
