Subject
Symbolism of the Senegalese flag
Description
The Senegalese flag, which was adopted in 1960, is a tricolor flag consisting of green, yellow, and red, with a green star in the middle. Each color represents a different facet of the country’s beliefs or values, as does the star itself. The green stripe, along with the green star, represents Islam, the country’s most dominate religion. Yellow is the symbol of wealth, reflecting Senegal’s economic progress. Finally, red denotes life, the sacrifice of the nation, and its fight against underdevelopment.
